“Aaaah, the trainees will be arriving in 15 minutes, I know that I have everything prepared, I have ticked everything off my checklist, my equipment is all working, my notes are all in order, I have been to the bathroom,
BUT ...... I am still really nervous. This day is really important, I have a really important person attending, I am really worried I am going to mess something up, someone is going to question me and I am not going to know the answer, my butterflies are nearly jumping out of my stomach. Aaaah, my mind just won’t shut up!!”
Have you ever felt like that before the start of your training?
Has there been a time when your head is shouting so loud you just can’t hear yourself think?
In order to deliver a fantastic training, the last thing you want is to be stressed, worried or panicky as this often will be picked up by your trainees and they are likely to mirror your emotions.
So it is key to find a way that suits you to still your mind, relax yourself and get yourself into a great space before you start.
Here’s a fantastic technique that I learnt from a great trainer, David Hyner, who spoke at one of my Gold Star Training events.
Preparation to do before your training event
- Get yourself a photo album, a scrapbook, a folder or something that you can put things in.
- Go through your photos, your memorabilia, your magazines etc and pick out things that when you look at them they make you smile, they warm your heart, they relax you, they make you feel calm and at peace.
For example: photos of your spouse, your children, your pets, holidays that you have been on, pictures that your children have drawn, postcards of sunsets, beaches, mountains. Whatever works for you, there is no right thing or wrong thing, this is personal to you. - Then put these into your chosen album, scrapbook etc and create a little memorabilia that you can carry around with you and take with you when you are presenting.
Before the start of your training/presentation
- Take out your memorabilia
- Find yourself a quiet place where you can have 15 minutes to yourself before your trainees are due to arrive.
- Go through your memorabilia and allow your mind go back to the wonderful memories and thoughts that are triggered by those pictures/items.
- Take your time and enjoy the moment.
This will take your mind away from the nerves and worry that you could be feeling before your training and put in you in a wonderful warm, loving, relaxed and peaceful state so you can deliver the best training ever!
Thanks to David Hyner for this great technique! :-)
Happy Training!
